In June England Netball held several trials for Somerset Netball Academies at Westfield Academy, Yeovil. The Performance Pathway aims develop athletes with the attributes to attain excellence.
The first step on the Excel Pathway are the Satellite Academies targeted at U14 athletes (years 7, 8 & 9) who have been identified as having the potential to play netball at a higher level. Satellite Academies aims to give players the quality individual coaching support they require, providing education on how to train.
Well done to Yeovil Junior Netball Club members Abigail Foote, Carys Viant, Lily Clarke and Katie Giles for being selected for the Somerset Satellite Netball Academy.
The second step on the Excel Pathway are the County Academies targeted at U16 athletes (years 10 & 11) who have been identified as having the potential to play netball at a higher level. County Academy aims to give players quality individual coaching developing their skills and learning how to train effectively.
Also selected from Yeovil Netball Club Chloe Hellyar, Daniella Conway, Amy Luck and Georgia Tailby who have been selected for the Somerset County Netball Academy.
Hollie Wright, Yeovil Junior Netball Club Chairman and coach said “Its great to see so many of our club members being selected for Performance Pathway Academies. They are a credit to the club, their parents and themselves and have worked hard to get there. Well done also to those who were nominated either by their school or local clubs, it proves how much netball talent is in Somerset.”
Training sessions are due to start later in the year and will include: fitness, skills work, goal setting, and many other aspects necessary to become an elite athlete.
