Another success story for YNC

Yeovil Netball club member Leah Turner has been selected for the AoC Sport national netball squad.

The trials were held in Nottingham over a weekend in November and consisted of morning fitness sessions followed by game play during the afternoons. There were over 100 girls that attended the trials weekend and a final selection of 24 were chosen for the squad.

They have various fixtures and training sessions over the coming year including:-

  • 23rd & 24th Jan – Gateshead (Newcastle)
  • 13th & 14th Feb – Northern Ireland (Belfast) v NI U21s
  • 12th & 13th March – Scotland (Glasgow) U17s & Scottish Unis
  • 21st & 22nd May – Surrey (Guildford) NPL Squads
  • 25th & 26th June – Wales (Cardiff) U21s

Leah was given player of the weekend with a 3 of the others after the Gateshead training, and in Northern Ireland Leah was given Player of the Match after each match.

Leah trains at College 3 times a week, and obviously weekly with the club but also with the British Colleges squad on weekends before each match.

When asked about the experience of British Colleges, Leah said “I am loving the experience; it’s all really well organised, the coaches and girls are lovely. I obviously have to work really hard but am having the best time.”

Leah also has a few tips for upcoming netballers “Listen to your coaches – Sam Newton, Jo Peter and Hollie Wright at Yeovil Netball Club really know what they are talking about; make sure you put 100% effort into all the training and games and take any opportunity that you’re offered. It helps to have confidence in yourself too!”

Leah and her family would like to thank Yeovil Netball Club for all the support she has received. To Sam Newton for all her coaching, believing in her, encouraging her and giving her the confidence to trial. Also to her college coach Emma, Leah is really grateful for the training sessions, games and for putting her forward for the AoC trials.
